Windermere Prep Athletics Announces New Hires

AUGUST 4 - Windermere Prep is proud to welcome four exceptional educators and coaches to its Athletic Department and Physical Education faculty. These new hires reflect the school's continued commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics, and each individual brings unique strengths, experiences, and a student-first mindset to the Laker community.

Angela Vargas – Head Tennis Coach
A decorated player and rising coaching talent, Angela Vargas joins Windermere Prep as the new Head Coach of the Tennis Program. A 6A high school standout and collegiate star at St. Mary's University, Vargas earned honors such as Freshman of the Year, All-Conference First Team, and Tournament MVP. Following her playing career, she served as assistant coach for both the men's and women's teams at St. Mary's and was named South Central Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year. With experience coaching at clubs and camps across Texas and the Northeast, Vargas brings a bilingual background, strong communication skills, and a deep passion for player development—particularly for international athletes.

"Angela's commitment to player growth, both on and off the court, aligns perfectly with our vision for Windermere Prep tennis," said Patrick Hollern, Director of Athletics. "We're thrilled to welcome her to our team."

Lauren Zabriskie – Lower School PE Teacher & Volleyball Assistant Coach
Windermere Prep is also excited to welcome Lauren Zabriskie to the Physical Education faculty and volleyball coaching staff. Zabriskie brings a strong background in health education and collegiate athletics, having served as a volunteer assistant coach with Lindenwood University's Beach Volleyball Team. A former middle blocker at Austin Peay State University, she compiled over 770 kills and 300 blocks during her four-year collegiate career. Zabriskie has taught health and strength training in Missouri and is a certified First Aid and CPR instructor through the American Heart Association. She will teach Lower School PE and support both the indoor and beach volleyball programs.

"Lauren brings an incredible blend of athletic experience, classroom leadership, and student-first passion," said Hollern. "We are thrilled to welcome her to the Laker family."

Mike Sanderson – Head Boys' Lacrosse Coach
With nearly a decade of experience in independent school education and an extensive coaching background, Mike Sanderson joins as Head Coach of the Boys' Lacrosse Program. Most recently a faculty member at Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale, Sanderson has coached with Pine Crest, Sweetlax, and Leatherbacks Lacrosse while also serving as a Sports Program Director at Camp Takajo in Maine. He has also contributed to collegiate programs at Michigan State, Purdue, and Clarkson University. Sanderson holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and has made a lasting impact as a teacher, mentor, and leader focused on character development, performance, and team culture.

"Mike's passion for education, performance, and leadership makes him a perfect fit for our lacrosse program and our community," said Hollern.

Jason Greer – Head Coach for Cross Country and Track & Field
