Four Seniors Announce College Intentions on National Signing Day

WINDERMERE, FL - On Wednesday, November 9, National Signing Day, four seniors at Windermere Prep signed Division I commitment letters to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. Julia Kane will continue her volleyball career at Purdue University, Brielyn Knowles will continue her soccer career at Louisiana State University, Mia Williams will continue her softball career at the University of Florida and Piper Hofmann will continue her softball career at Stonehill College.

Windermere Prep Director of Athletics, Patrick Hollern, said, "we would like to congratulate Julia, Brielyn, Mia and Piper and their families on this amazing opportunity. Each of these student-athletes have shown throughout their scholastic career to be superior in both the classroom and the athletic arena. We are confident that the lessons all four girls learned in the classroom and the playing field, as a Laker, will carry them far in whatever they pursue."

Julia Kane - Indoor Volleyball - Purdue University
Julia, a six-year letterwinner in both indoor and beach volleyball, found success not only in volleyball, but also excelled in the classroom. During her time as a Laker, Julia was honored on the Headmaster List and a National Merit Commended Scholar. On the court, Julia was named to the Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA) All-State and All-Academic teams. During her time as a Laker, Julia finished her career as the school's all-time leader with 342 kills in a season, 24 kills in a game, 133 career aces, 841 career digs, 254 digs in a season, 39 digs in a game and finished second all-time with 667 career kills.

On choosing to attend Purdue University, Julia said, "I selected Purdue because of the academic opportunities in the field I am interested in pursuing, the volleyball team culture, the kindness of the coaching staff, and the competitiveness of the Big Ten conference."

Of her experience at Windermere Prep, Julia added, "WPS taught me the importance of collaborative approaches to goal setting and problem solving in academic and competitive environments."

Julia is the daughter of Sean and Caroline Kane, both Purdue graduates. She wanted to recognize her brothers Andrew (Mercer University and Rice University - Baseball), Katie (Emory University - Volleyball), Matthew (Holy Cross - Football), and WPS Freshman, William.  Julia intends on majoring in Natural Resources and Environmental Science, and hopes to work for the National Park Service.

Brielyn Knowles - Women's Soccer - Louisiana State University
Brielyn, a varsity team captain for the girls' soccer team in her sophomore, junior and senior year, earned recognition by the Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA) as an All-State and All-Academic player. Brielyn was the Lakers top goal scorer in both her sophomore and junior seasons. She is currently the second all-time leader in career goals with 59 and career points with 142. Brielyn has been a member of the Windermere Prep National Honor Society in each of her four years.

On choosing to attend Louisiana State University, Brielyn said, "I selected LSU because when I went there it immediately felt like home. The atmosphere I was involved in was like no other. Being around the team felt like being around one big family, and the coaches made all of my experiences meeting them feel personal. The passion for LSU came from everyone on campus and I quickly knew that I wanted to share that same passion."

Of her experience at Windermere Prep, Brielyn added, "Windermere Prep has taught me how to deal with adversity, how dangerous procrastination is, and the importance of diversity within the community."

Brielyn is the daughter of Terrance and Kim Knowles. She also wanted to recognize her brother Jaden, a graduate of Windermere Prep. Brielyn intends on majoring in Political Science.

Mia Williams - Softball - University of Florida
Mia, the number one rated national softball player in the class of 2023, was named to the Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA) All-State and All-Academic teams. Mia also earned recognition from Miracle Sports as a Class 3A First-Team infielder during her sophomore year. Mia, a shortstop, was a key piece on the 2021 Windermere Prep softball team that finished as the FHSAA Class 3A State Runner-Up. During that season, Mia set the school record with a .558 batting average, 40 runs scored, 48 hits and 8 home runs. Mia has been a member of the Windermere Prep National Honor Society in each of her four years.

On choosing to attend the University of Florida, Mia said, "I chose the University of Florida because    of the amazing coaching staff and to win a National Championship. And also with it being a top 5 school athletically and a top 5 school academically, that's pretty hard to beat."

Of her experience at Windermere Prep, Mia added, "From being at WPS I have learned to keep going.  No matter who or what gets in your way you just keep preserving and pushing through.  WPS has contributed to me becoming a more resilient person and has taught me to adapt to adversity."

Mia is the daughter of Jason and Denika Williams. Mia intends on majoring in Biology and hopefully getting into Veterinary school and earning her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.

Piper Hofmann - Softball - Stonehill College
Piper, a four-year letterwinner for the softball team and a FHSAA Regional qualifier on the cross country team, played a vital role on the 2021 Windermere Prep softball team that finished as the FHSAA Class 3A State Runner-Up. During her Laker career, Piper had a batting average of .300 and led the team in hits, doubles and home runs during her junior season.

On choosing to attend Stonehill College, Piper said, "I've always wanted to go to school in the Northeast, specifically Massachusetts. Stonehill's campus and environment is amazing and I will have the opportunity to pursue my academic goals while also playing collegiate softball at a competitive level."

Of her experience at Windermere Prep, Piper added, "WPS has emphasized the importance of responsibility and leadership, which will prepare me for challenging college courses and for success on the softball field. Another thing that WPS has taught me is determination. This was seen when the Lakers softball team went to the State Championship for the first time ever. It was amazing to see all of our efforts and hard work pay off."

Piper is the daughter of Derek and Erica Hofmann. Piper intends on majoring in Health Science, and eventually attending graduate school to become a Physical Therapist.
