Lakers Fall in State Championship Game

MAY 20 - The Windermere Prep softball team fell to Academy of the Holy Names 4-3 on Thursday in the Class 3A FHSAA State Championship Game. The Jaguars were down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Annabelle Sardja doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.

The Lakers opened up scoring in the first inning as Meredith Workman hit into a fielder's choice, scoring one run. Two batters later, Madison Workman singled scoring a run to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead.

WPS held a 2-0 lead until the bottom of the fifth when Academy of the Holy Names platted two runners to tie the game at five.

The Lakers regained the lead in the top of the 7th as the Piper Hofmann singled with two outs to score Zoie Pistel to give WPS a 3-2 lead.

Annabelle Sardja got the win for Academy of the Holy Names as she surrendered three runs on 14 hits over seven innings, striking out six.

Gracie Wallace took the loss for the Lakers. Wallace allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out seven.

Piper Hofmann, Madison Workman, Mia Williams, Zoie Pistel, and Ariana Lara all collected multiple hits for the Lakers. Hofmann led WPS with three hits in four at bats.

The Lakers finished their season with a 25-2 overall record. The team set a program record with 25 wins as they won the program's first ever District and Regional Championship.
