Football Preview at Bishop McLaughlin

SEPTEMBER 18 – Windermere Prep hits the road Friday night for a familiar matchup as the Lakers travel to Spring Hill to take on Bishop McLaughlin Catholic. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

The Lakers enter the matchup 2-1 following a 19-15 victory over Faith Christian in last week's home opener. After falling behind 9-0 in the first quarter, Windermere Prep responded with 19 unanswered points before holding off the Lions in the fourth quarter.

The victory required the Lakers to make a significant adjustment offensively. After both starting quarterbacks were injured earlier in the season, Windermere Prep installed a new offense leading into the Faith Christian game and turned to sophomore Carter Pucci at quarterback. Pucci directed a run-heavy attack that produced 158 rushing yards and helped the Lakers overcome the early deficit.

Through the first three weeks, William Taylor leads the Lakers with 50.5 rushing yards per game, while Pucci is averaging 34.0 yards per game and leads the team with two rushing touchdowns. Defensively, Koren Williams leads Windermere Prep with 5.5 tackles per game, while Jordan Jones has recorded an interception and Colton Berry has forced two fumbles.

Friday's matchup also brings the Lakers back to the site of one of the biggest victories in program history. The last time Windermere Prep traveled to Bishop McLaughlin was in 2025, when the Lakers defeated the Hurricanes 25-14 to capture the SSAA 1A State Championship. Windermere Prep rushed for 181 yards in that championship victory.

Bishop McLaughlin enters Friday night's game coming off a narrow 32-31 loss and will look to senior running back Elijah McNutt, who leads the Hurricanes at 85.8 rushing yards per game and has scored four touchdowns this season.

With a reshaped offense and a defense that helped turn last week's game around, the Lakers will look to build on their momentum as they return to the field where they finished the 2025 season as state champions.
