APRIL 2 - The Windermere Prep baseball team capped off an outstanding performance by securing the SSAA Tournament Championship with a commanding 14-3 victory over Duval Charter on Friday afternoon.Â
Windermere Prep was led offensively by Peyton Hollern, who delivered a standout performance with four RBIs on three hits. He sparked the Lakers' attack with an RBI double in the second inning before breaking the game open in the fifth with a bases-clearing triple.
The Lakers set the tone early, getting on the board in the first inning following a dropped third strike that allowed a run to score. They then took full control in the second inning, erupting for six runs on six hits to build a 7-1 advantage. A key moment came when Brody Knight delivered a two-run double on an 0-2 count to highlight the inning.
Windermere Prep continued to apply pressure in the fifth, plating six more runs on five hits. Knight drove in a run with a single, Hollern added three RBIs with his triple, Andrew Ligonis contributed an RBI double, and Reggie Manzano capped the inning with a run-scoring single.
On the mound, Matthew Kirk earned the win, working five innings while allowing four hits and three runs, striking out two and walking three.
The Lakers' offense was relentless throughout, totaling 16 hits in the game. Hollern, Josh Goldberg, and Knight each recorded three hits, while Ligonis added two. The team also showcased its aggressiveness on the base paths, swiping five bases, including two from Knight.
