Bennett Shines as Lakers Improve to 1-1

WINDERMERE, FL - The Lakers celebrated their first win of the season and their first win in The Citrus League with a 64-21 win over visiting Trinity Prep Friday night. Sophomore running back, Jackson Bennett set three school records on the night with seven touchdowns, scored 42 points and accumulated 347 yards of total offense.

The Lakers opened the scoring as sophomore, Mason Williams took a Trinity Prep punt 45-yards into the end zone. Following the 2-point conversion, WPS took an early 8-0 lead. On the next Lakers possession, Zane Fullmer hit Bennett for a five-yard touchdown. Oliver Cowin added the first of his six extra points on the night. Following an interception by Williams, Fullmer hit Bennett on a bubble screen and the sophomore running back scampered 80-yards for a Lakers touchdown. After a Saints punt, the duo of Fullmer and Bennett connected again, this time for a 29-yard score. Fullmer added his fourth touchdown pass in the first half connecting once again with Bennett on a 16-yard score. On the next Saints possession, Williams picked off his second pass of the game, which led to another Lakers touchdown as Fullmer found Williams for a 27-yard score to give WPS a 44-0 lead. Trinity Prep cut into the Lakers lead with two late first half scores.

Bennett added three second half scores as the Lakers improved to 1-1 on the season. Fullmer completed 11 of 15 passes for 284 yards and six touchdowns, which tied his own school record. Bennett finished the night with nine carries for 160 yards and 6 receptions for 187 yards. Johnny Geller and Williams led the team with eight tackles.
