MARCH 2 - The boys' basketball team's bid to bring a state title back to Windermere fell short as the Lakers lost to Riviera Prep, 67-57 in the FHSAA Class 3A State Championship Game.
The opening quarter was marked with end to end action as junior Sam Shoptaw sank a buzzer-beater to tie the score at 17. However, Riviera Prep seized control, establishing an eight-point lead by halftime and stretching it to 18 points late in the third quarter. Despite the Lakers' resilience, narrowing the gap to 10 points with just over two minutes remaining, Riviera Prep ultimately emerged victorious, clinching their second consecutive State Championship.
Sophomore Brandon Bass Jr. led Windermere Prep in scoring with 18 points, supported by fellow sophomore Sinan Huan, who contributed 14 points. Shoptaw added 13 points for the Lakers in a losing effort. Riviera Prep's Dante Allen led all scorers with a game-high 26 points.
