Before joining Windermere Prep, Coach Evans honed his coaching skills at Hoop Dreams Elite in Winter Garden, FL. There, he created and implemented innovative strategies to engage athletes in their development journeys, providing guidance to overcome challenges and identify growth opportunities. His ability to cultivate strong relationships ensured ongoing support and encouragement for his clients. Additionally, Coach Evans organized special events such as pre-season tryouts, training camps, and workshops to support team goals.
Coach Evans also boasts over a decade of experience as a Girls' Travel Basketball Coach in Orlando, FL. His coaching techniques and dedication helped more than 80 basketball players secure college scholarships. Beyond the court, he acted as a mentor, supporting the academic and personal development of student-athletes under his guidance. Coach Evans is known for promoting a positive team atmosphere, emphasizing sportsmanship, and serving as a role model both on and off the court.
Further showcasing his commitment to education and student development, Coach Evans served as the Dean of Students at Orange County Public Schools in Orlando, FL. In this role, he designed and implemented effective disciplinary procedures, recommended classroom enhancements, and developed individualized behavior improvement plans for students in need. He also contributed to mentoring programs for at-risk students and effectively addressed concerns from parents, students, and staff.
In his current role at Windermere Prep, Coach Evans not only leads the Girls' Basketball program but also supports the operations of all athletic programs through his expertise in facilities and event management. His responsibilities include coordinating game day logistics, managing athletic equipment and uniforms, and overseeing the preparation and maintenance of sports facilities. His organizational skills and hands-on experience ensure that all athletic events are executed smoothly and that equipment is maintained to the highest standard.
Coach Evans's extensive experience, innovative coaching strategies, and dedication to student-athlete development make him an invaluable asset to the Windermere Prep community. Darren and his wife Kelly, along with daughters Mikayla and Cali and son Jay, reside in Ocoee, FL.Â
